TERREBONNE PARISH, La. —A former high school teacher and track coach is accused of being sexually involved with a male student and intentionally exposing the student to HIV, Terrebonne Parish authorities said.
According to a news release from the Sheriff's Office, 37-year-old Derrick Nesby was suspected of having sex with a student at H. L. Bourgeois High School. Nesby was the student's track coach and a teacher at the school, authorities said.
Investigators said they received a complaint regarding allegations that a teacher was sexually involved with a student. Nesby was questioned and released. Through the investigation, authorities obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Nesby, who lives in New Orleans, was arrested Wednesday on one count of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and one count of intentional exposure to the AIDS virus. He denies the allegations.
Nesby's bond was set at $1,000,000.
