Authorities in Bergen County are asking the public to help identify a man accused of wielding a boxcutter as he threatened a bus passenger, called him a terrorist and ordered him off the bus on a busy highway in what police are investigating as a bias crime.
The victim told police he boarded a Spanish Transportation Corp. Jitney bus about 3:45 p.m. on May 2 in the 2200 block of Broadway in Fair Lawn.
The suspect asked the victim if he was Indian. He then stated that the victim’s family had killed the suspect’s father and that the victim was a terrorist and responsible for the 911 attacks,” Ehrenberg said.
The man also spit at the victim before brandishing a boxcutter knife and making “slashing motions at the suspect,” which struck the victims back pack, Ehrenberg said.
